Travis Hupp is a lifelong poet with a passion for imagery that captures the essence of gay life in the South and in the US in general. Hupp explains his inspirations for writing and the messages he hopes to convey to readers within and outside the LGBTQ community. His work often addresses his heterosexual peers and the heteronormative and hetero-pushing American culture. With themes of unrequited love, feelings, and frustrations that come along with living in a binary society, Hupp lines up like legions the ghosts of his past to hold onto or leave for good.
Hupp also discusses his experience working with hybrid publishers to create the finished product of his collections, and touches on the creative freedoms he maintains throughout that process.
